Networking is all about understanding the behaviour of the underlying protocols. Many of these protocols are deterministic, meaning they will always produce a predictable result for a given set of inputs.
This is achieved by using predictable values, such as MAC and IP addresses, and reproducable values such as cost and hop count. These [...]

CCNPRecertification.com, and some other sites, have run off my cable modem since inception. The server started to become bogged down after time, so I thought it time to pay for some off site hosting.
Dedicated servers were in the $100US/month range, and the $5/mo cheapie hosting deals didn’t have the features I needed. Virtual [...]

At long last the writing for my book is done, and I can get back to studying.
The unfortunate part is that my CCNP has expired, and therefore I must do both the CCNA and CCNP.
So, the focus for a little while will be getting my CCNA. Stay tuned.

The Cisco Certified Voice Professional sits on the same level as the CCNP. Not sure what’s happening to the CCNP+Voice.
CCVP requires 5 exams plus the CCNA:
642-642 QOS Quality of Service (QOS)
642-432 CVOICE Cisco Voice Over IP (CVOICE)
642-425 IPTT IP Telephony Troubleshooting (IPTT)
642-444 CIPT Cisco IP Telephony Part [...]

Really nice interface… click on a device and it either opens up a telnet connection or a terminal services window. I recommend printing out the 14 page lab guide first, since with all the windows open [...]

I’m working on an article on policy routing, which will lead nicely into BGP, but in the meantime, I’ve found The ABC’s of IP Version 6 from Cisco. 76 pages, I haven’t gone through it all yet, but it looks worthwhile from what I’ve read.

If you look at the previous entry, I didn’t set up R2 because it didn’t have IS-IS loaded. Well, I find myself with a bit of free time, and a desire to see what happens between R1 and R2, who are on the same subnet but don’t have direct access.
So, I figure I’ll load [...]

I watched the February Certifications Connect: Recertification video from the community site over at Cisco.
Nothing really earth shattering, though it’s not a bad use of time.
When I took my CCNP, my routing exam was BCSN, which has now been changed to BCSI. The big change here is the addition of IS-IS. The switching [...]
