I watched the February Certifications Connect: Recertification video from the community site over at Cisco.

Nothing really earth shattering, though it’s not a bad use of time.

When I took my CCNP, my routing exam was BCSN, which has now been changed to BCSI. The big change here is the addition of IS-IS. The switching exam, BCMSN, has changed a lot, with the addition of QoS, 6500 commands, and more advanced STP features.

A question about BCRAN and CIT not being required for recertification came up, the reasoning was that routing and switching was common to both the CCNP and CCDP, and was still the core of the certification.

Another FAQ was answered, obtaining the CCIE or CCIE recertification will recertify you in your CCNP and CCNA, but not specializations. Not that this matters a hell of a lot, if I had my CCIE I wouldn’t bother with the CCNP. I guess it’s a partner thing.

In terms of when to recertify, it has to be done before the certification expires. That is, it looks like if you miss the date you have to do the track again.

The composite exam will have simulations.
